Finding scholarly books and articles online

Directory of Open Access Journals
This site connects you to many of the largest and best-established open access journals online across all subjects. A keyword search engine lets you search for journals or even specific articles.
ERIC (the government's free interface)
The freely available version of ERIC will give you full-text access to many ERIC documents, as well as to the full text of articles in any open-access or public domain journals indexed at ERIC.
Google Books
Scans of a significant fraction of the total number of books published anytime in the last couple of centuries. If the book is out of copyright, or the publisher has given permission, you'll be able to see a preview of the book, and in some cases the entire text.
Google Scholar
Google Scholar allows you to search across many disciplines and sources: articles, theses, books, abstracts and court opinions, from academic publishers, professional societies, online repositories, universities and other web sites. HathiTrust
HathiTrust is a partnership of major research institutions and libraries working to ensure that the cultural record is preserved and accessible long into the future: they provide access to more than 4.5 million public domain books via their online full-text library.
JSTOR's "Register & Read" program
JSTOR is allowing individuals to sign up for free, read-online access to more than five million journal articles on JSTOR. Access is restricted to no more than 3 articles at a time, and no more than 3 articles in any given 14 day period.
PLOS One
PLOS ONE is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access, online publication, focused especially (but not exclusively) on the sciences. PLOS ONE welcomes reports on primary research from any scientific discipline, and makes its articles freely available via the Creative Commons license.

Incorporating science videos into your teaching

The NEIU Libraries' subscription to the Journal of Visualized Experiments (JoVE) Science Education modules allows us to share the resource with 3 area high schools; Amundsen is one of those.
