Overview

The U.S. government is the largest collector of business and economic data in the world. Much of this data is available online through federal government websites.

International economic statistics are compiled and made available online by NGOs (non-governmental organizations like the United Nations), data aggregators and many countries.

Business, Labor, and Economic Data

Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA)
The Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) promotes a better understanding of the U.S. economy by providing the most timely, relevant, and accurate economic accounts data in an objective and cost-effective manner.
Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS)
BLS is the principal Federal agency responsible for measuring labor market activity, working conditions, and price changes in the economy.
Business and Economy Data
The U.S. Census Bureau provides a wide variety of statistics and data tools useful for businesses.
Congressional Budget Office (CBO)
Since 1975, CBO has produced independent analyses of budgetary and economic issues to support the Congressional budget process. Each year, the agency’s economists and budget analysts produce dozens of reports and hundreds of cost estimates for proposed legislation.
Federal Reserve Beige Book
Commonly known as the Beige Book, this report is published eight times per year. Each Federal Reserve Bank gathers anecdotal information on current economic conditions in its District through reports from Bank and Branch directors and interviews with key business contacts, economists, market experts, and other sources. The Beige Book summarizes this information by District and sector. An overall summary of the twelve district reports is prepared by a designated Federal Reserve Bank on a rotating basis.
