Request Library Instruction

Library instruction sessions support your course curriculum and prepare students for research-based assignments, in coordination with the Library's Information Literacy Plan. Face-to-face or online library instruction can range from individual research consultations with students to an in-class lecture and workshop.

Librarians are available for:

  • one-on-one research consultations via Google Meet, chat or email
  • course-related library instruction sessions, either real-time or recorded
  • course embedding in D2L
  • in-person instruction sessions, if needed

Please complete the NEIU Libraries Instruction Request Intake Form to arrange a session for your class.

Please note: A two-week advance notice is greatly appreciated (and necessary) to best accommodate instruction requests, especially if you would like a recording. Please take that into consideration when planning library instruction.

You and your students are also welcome to visit the first floor Reference Desk or call (773) 442-4410.

Textbook Course Reserves

If you would like the NEIU Libraries to purchase a copy of your textbook to put on reserve, please complete this form before the start of the semester. Library ordering take a little more time than what you're used to with Amazon.

Access NEIU Libraries' Online Resources from Anywhere

Always, always, always start your search at the NEIU Libraries home page.

This will ensure that you are recognized as an NEIU faculty member and can access our thousands of online subscriptions. From there, search the library catalog or begin a search in a database.

How do you do it?

The NEIU Libraries use a tool called OpenAthens to ensure NEIU students, faculty, and staff can access our online subscriptions anytime from anywhere. All that's required is an NEIU NetID and password.

These links begin with the string https://go.openathens.net/redirector/neiu.edu?url= to identify anyone using them as affiliated with NEIU. Users then login with their NEIU NetID and password--the same information used for NEIUport, D2L, and Nmail.

For example, if you wanted to provide a link to the Academic Video Online database, instead of:

https://video.alexanderstreet.com/channe/academic-video-online (will only work if on campus)

use the link:

https://go.openathens.net/redirector/neiu.edu?url=https%3A%2F%2Fvideo.alexanderstreet.com%2Fchanne%2Facademic-video-online (will work whether on or off campus)

Use our Link Generator to create your own links to NEIU Libraries' resources easily by copying and pasting. If you run into trouble, just contact eadmin@neiu.edu for assistance.
