AI Literacy Toolkit: Campus Resources

As of September 24, 2025, access to Google Gemini has been turned off for users with @neiu.edu accounts while UTS evaluates the tool. Stay tuned for updates.

As a university that uses Google Workspace, NEIU students, faculty, and staff have access to the Google AI assistants Gemini and NotebookLM. Specifically, NEIU uses the Google Workspace for Education Fundmentals (free) set of tools, whose icons are shown above.

What this means for students, faculty, and staff using Google AI tools while logged in with an NEIU account:

• Education Fundamentals offers "enterprise-grade security and privacy"
• Google Gemini's Terms of Service states Gemini chats or uploaded files will NOT be reviewed by human reviewers or otherwise used to improve Google's generative AI models
• Gemini chat transcripts are stored for 18 months. Individuals can neither delete transcripts nor turn off transcript recording in the first place. This decision is made at the University level by UTS.
