Professional Organizations

Several professional organizations for those involved with human resource development have websites. Below are links to some of those websites.

Academy of Human Resource Development (AHRD)
"AHRD is a global organization made up of, governed by, and created for the Human Resource Development (HRD) scholarly community of academics and reflective practitioners." AHRD seeks to lead HRD through research.
American Council on International Personnel (ACIP)
ACIP is "a membership-driven trade association devoted to advancing the . . . interests of large multi-national employers" regarding "issues affecting the mobility of skilled professionals across international borders."
Association for Talent Development (formerly American Society for Training and Development (ASTD))
The ASTD website states that ASTD "is the world’s largest association dedicated to workplace learning and performance professionals. ASTD’s members come from more than 100 countries."

Association for Educational Communications and Technology (AECT)
AECT is a professional organization that seeks to improve instruction through technology.
HR Policy Association
An advocacy group that "brings together the chief human resource officers of more than 250 of the largest corporations in the United States who are concerned about the direction of HR public policy and practices in the United States and globally."
Human Resource People and Strategy (HRPS)
The mission of HRPS is "To help organizations enhance their performance through strategic management of human resources."
International Society for Performance Improvement (ISPI)
"ISPI's mission is to develop and recognize the proficiency of its members and advocate the use of Human Performance Technology."
Organization Development Network (ODN)
ODN is an international, professional organization "committed to advancing the theory and practice of organization development."

Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM)
The SHRM website states that "SHRM serves the needs of the human resource management professional by providing the most essential and comprehensive set of resources available. . . . SHRM includes a global membership of more than 200,000."

Government

Government in the United States, at the federal, state and local level, impacts human resource development practitioners through passing laws, issuing administrative rulings and handing down court decisions. Below are links to some government websites that might be of interest to those involved with human resource development.

Department of Labor Employment & Training Administration (ETA)
ETA's mission "is to contribute to the more efficient functioning of the U.S. labor market by providing high quality job training, employment, labor market information, and income maintenance service."

Department of Labor Occupational Outlook Handbook (OOH)
The "Occupational Outlook Handbook" is a nationally recognized source of career information, designed to provide valuable assistance to individuals making decisions about their future work lives. The Handbook is revised every two years.
