What are OER?

Open Educational Resources (OER) are teaching, learning and research materials in any medium – digital or otherwise – that reside in the public domain or have been released under an open license that permits no-cost access, use, adaptation and redistribution by others with no or limited restrictions (via UNESCO).

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the price of textbooks rose 88% from January 2006 to July 2016. While the Library works to support textbook affordability through our Textbook Reserve Collection, OERs provide an alternative to expensive textbooks.

Click through the tabs to find OER collections according to discipline. We are continually updating this list, but if you'd like to speak with a librarian about finding OERs to use in your classes, please contact your subject librarian

Many thanks to Northwestern University Libraries OER Toolkit for the resources and guide organization.

Are Open Educational Resources Effective?
