Psychology & Gerontology Research Guide

Guide to Library Resources in Psychology and Gerontology

Getting started

Can I do all my research at home or from a computer off-campus?

Yes! However, many resources are licensed for NEIU users only, so you'll need to login using your NEIU NetID and Password when accessing them off-campus. The NEIU Libraries' online resources are available 24 hours a day.

What is interlibrary loan?

While researching, you may find materials you need that we don't own. Interlibrary loan is a free service the NEIU Libraries offers to get you those materials. If we don't own it, we'll get it for you.

How does interlibrary loan work?

There are two ways of getting something we don't own through interlibrary loan.

  • Request a book we don't own that you find in I-Share. I-Share searches over 86 libraries in Illinois. To request a book from I-Share, create a Library Catalog account using the 14 digit number on your NEIU ID card. You will receive an email when your books arrive. Books can be delivered to the NEIU Libraries location of your choice (NEIU Main Library, El Centro, CCICS, or University Center in Grayslake) and will arrive in approximately 3-9 calendar days.

  • Use WorldShare interlibrary loan to request an online version of a journal or magazine article that we don't own or a book that is not available in I-Share. Log in to WorldShare using your NetID and password. Online versions of requested articles are delivered to your online WorldShare account, and books are delivered to the NEIU Libraries location you designate. Articles typically take 1-3 days to arrive, and books can take anywhere from 5 days to several weeks depending on the book's location.

Linking Google Scholar and Library Databases Off-Campus

When you're on-campus and using Google Scholar to conduct research, you'll notice the "Find it @ NEIU" link on the right side of your results page. See below:

Clicking on "Find it @ NEIU" connects you to our NEIU Libraries' database subscriptions, where you'll often be able to find the full text of the article for free (or be connected to WorldShare interlibrary loan to borrow the article for free from another library).

To see these "Find it @ NEIU" links when you're off-campus, please follow the instructions below to connect Google Scholar to the NEIU Libraries database subscriptions.
