Requesting an Item Owned by the NEIU Libraries

Requesting an Item Owned by the NEIU Libraries

Low-contact Pickup is available for materials owned by the NEIU Libraries.  You can find the location of the item you're viewing under the title, author, and publication date listed at the top of the record.  Example: the book in the photo below is "Available at Main Library Book Shelves."  This means it is owned by the NEIU Libraries and is located at the Main Campus Library location.

For best results, Sign In to see the request options available to you.  Click the Sign in link on the yellow bar to log in using your NEIU NetId (same as NEIUport, D2L, and Nmail).

Note: If the location says "Check for available services" the item is not owned by the NEIU Libraries.  These materials must be requested through I-Share.  Please click here to read the instructions for Requesting an Item Through I-Share.

Once you've logged in, you will see request options in the Get It section.  Click on the link that says "Request for Low-contact Pickup" to initiate your request.

Requesting a Book through I-Share

Requesting a Book through I-Share

If the NEIU Libraries does not own a copy of the book you're looking for, place a request through I-Share.  Your requested book will be mailed to the NEIU Library location of your choice and you will receive an email when it is ready to be picked up.

You can find the location of the book you're viewing under the title, author, and publication date listed at the top of the record.  Because the location on the example below says "Check for available services" the item is not owned by the NEIU Libraries and therefore should be requested in I-Share.

You must be signed in to place a request in the system.  To begin, click the Sign in link on the yellow bar to log in using your NEIU NetId (same as NEIUport, D2L, and Nmail).

Once you've signed in you should see a link that says Borrow 1st Available Through I-Share under the How to Get It title.  Click on this link to begin your request.

Be sure to set your Preferred Local Pickup Location - Main Library, CCICS Library, or El Centro Library and Learning Resource Center.

Items requested via I-Share will arrive within five business days and will be held at the library desk for pickup for 14 days.

If NEIU Libraries do not have the full-text of an article, place a request through WorldShare.  You will know that the NEIU Libraries does not have a full-text version of the article because you will not see a link to view the article in a database.  Instead, you will see a link that says Request through WorldShare interlibrary loan (delivered as PDF).  You must be signed into the library website to see this option.

Articles requested through WorldShare usually arrive within 1-5 business days, and you will receive an email when the file is ready to download.

Once you've signed in you should see a link that says Request through WorldShare interlibrary loan (delivered as PDF) under the How to Get This Physical Item title.  Click on this link to begin your request.

Once you've clicked the link you may need to select Northeastern Illinois University from a list of institutions.  Once you've done this you will be brought to a sign in page - use your NetID and Password (the same info you use for Neiuport and D2L) to sign into the system.

Next you will be brought to the WorldShare request form.  You should not need to fill anything out.  Just double check the information and click the "Submit Request" button at the bottom of the page.

Requesting Books Through WorldShare

Occasionally a book will not be available in I-Share and you can try to request it through WorldShare.  These requests are often complicated and there is a real chance that we cannot fill it, but it's always worth submitting a request.

To request a book through WorldShare, you'll need to begin by logging into the WorldShare website.  Once you've clicked the link you may need to select Northeastern Illinois University from a list of institutions.  Once you've done this you will be brought to a sign in page - use your NetID and Password (the same info you use for Neiuport and D2L) to sign into the system.

Once you've successfully logged in, you will be brought to a page that looks similar to the screenshot below.  Click on the Request button to begin a new request.

A new, empty request form will load.  Make sure you are filling out a Borrow Item request form (not a Request PDF Copy form - this is for articles only).

Fill out the form with information about the book you're requesting.  Fields that have an asterisk (*) are required.

Once you've filled out the form scroll to the bottom of the page and click the "Submit Request" button at the bottom of the page.
